Chi Kung Shaolin
The Chinese word Chi Kung is generally translated as art of the energy or work on vital energy and Shaolin is the famous monastery where these arts have been cultivated for many centuries and also Kung Fu and Zen were originated.
It is not a particular philosophy, religion or something mystic or esoteric, but it is a simple and effective practice which, by means of body movements, breathing and consciousness, generates physical and mental relaxation and a pleasant flow of vital energy or "chi".
Chi Kung works at body level releasing the tension of muscles and articulations; at energy level, making "chi" flowing harmoniously and consequently improving the function of all organs and, at mind level, bringing to mental freshness and clarity.

The first benefit by a daily practice is good health, a better stress management and more vitality.
Chi Kung positively affects sex life, while simultaneously expands intellectual power, promotes serenity and spiritual joy, leading to a happy longevity.
The good results observed since many years in many countries in the world demonstrate that Chi Kung is suitable for today's life and it is recommended to anyone wishing to live in good health, increase vitality, reduce stress and anxiety and fully develop their potential, without necessarily changing way of life, habits and culture.
A short time practice (15 minutes per day) gives considerable results, but it must be performed correctly and regularly.

Tai Chi Chuan
The most reliable theory on the origin of Tai Chi Chuan goes back to the Taoist monk Zhan Sang Feng, who lived in the 13th century at the end of the Sung dinasty.
After his studies at the famous Shaolin monastery, where Chi Kung, Shaolin Kung Fu and Zen were originated, he continued his martial art training an his own spiritual cultivation in Wudang mountain Temple, one of the most important Taoist Temples in China.
One day in the mountain forest, he witnessed a fight between a snake and a crane. Neither of the two animals was able to prevail, but they were both very skilful and effective and the wild beauty of their performance deeply moved the young monk. He suddenly had the intuition to modify the rather hard Shaolin Kung Fu forms into a softer and more harmonious style which later became Tai Chi Chuan.

Aims and Benefits.
Tai Chi Chuan is excellent to promote physical, emotional and mental health. It is a gentle and graceful training and there is no need for special apparatus. It is a very effective martial art, where physical size and mechanical strength are not necessarily winning factors. At the highest level it is a sort of meditation that leads to mind expansion and generates spiritual peace and fulfilment.

We can state that practising Tai Chi Chuan provides benefits on three levels: good health, self defence and spiritual cultivation.
Zhang Sang Feng was the Master to switch from external methods of training, like hitting sand bags, weight lifting and others, to internal methods, like breath control, directing the "Chi" and visualizations.
Nowadays most schools consider Zhang Sang Feng as the founder of Tai Chi Chuan. By reading the "Song of the One who is Sitting in Silence", which is said to have been written by Zhang Sang Feng himself, we can understand that the primary aim of Tai Chi Chuan is spiritual realization.
